Pretty on top, tire treads on the bottom. One of my feet is a little shorter than the other and I got a blister on that heel, but a heal pad insert took care of it. As it turns out, they are very, very comfortable and have successfully passed the "all day" test-- I can wear them all day without any trouble! I bought this style to wear with jeans and they have the same comfort level as the athletic shoe. I gave them four stars because they were sqeaky for the first two days but that went away. I read the reviews so sized up one half a size and they are perfect. I wrote true to size above because with the size up they now are.
