Rated 4 out of 5 by Very good product for the money... I have gone through a pair of shoes at the rate of one per year now for several years. A friend recommended I try a pair of Dr. Martens, so using this advice, I purchased my first pair. The outer shell of the shoe is impressive in that every inch is leather stitched to leather - there is no other material woven in at all. The sole of the shoe is attached to the top with a very thick thread which I appreciate for the durability. The sole itself is one solid piece of material - not several pieces glued together like most shoes. For me - any piece glued to another is just two pieces with a greater chance of separation over time. Since this pair of shoes is a slip-on, there is almost always some elastic material somewhere - typically within view just by looking down at the shoe. In the case of this pair, the elastic is hidden behind a flap of leather where the tongue of the shoe would normally be, giving the shoe the feeling of hugging the foot without the typical cheap elastic bands showing for the world to see. The inner sole of the shoe has a nice one-piece design, just like the bottom sole & appears to be comfortable so far. The reasons I didn't give the shoe an overall rating of "excellent" is because the arch support isn't as good as I would have hoped (although with slip-ons, arch support often isn't much to speak of). Additionally, my perfect size would have been a 9.5, yet for some reason this particular shoe is not available in half-sizes. I had to choose either a size 9 - which would have been slightly too small - or a size 10 which is slightly too big. I was willing to deal with the "slightly too big" version specifically for the quality that came with the shoe. In this day & age of always looking for a cheaper way to produce something for a larger profit margin, I was glad to find a shoe that seemed to be built more like a shoe from an age of quality long gone these days.
